Seasoning Firewood
Seasoning firewood is the process of drying out the freshly cut wood to reduce its moisture content to an ideal level for burning (Below 20% MC). This process usually takes several months to a year, depending on the type of wood and the weather conditions. The main goal of seasoning firewood is to achieve maximum heat output and minimize creosote buildup in the chimney. Moisture in the wood can hinder combustion, produce more smoke and pollutants, and reduce efficiency. By seasoning the firewood, you can enjoy a more efficient and cleaner burn, and prevent chimney fires. To properly season firewood, it should be stacked in a dry, well-ventilated area, exposed to direct sunlight and air circulation. Some wood species, such as oak or Beech , may take longer to season than others, but the end result is worth the effort.
What we do . . .
We locally source our logs , this is either felled and collected by ourselves or supplied by forestry or Arboricultural contractors .
Once the logs arrive we process the the logs cutting and splitting into billets these are then stacked undercover for up to 12 months depending on species. whilst its stored undercover we check the moisture content regularly. Once we have got the log billets below 20% MC we can bag for delivery .
